- Hardware: HP Scanjet 2400.
- Software: Scanner driver.

The HP Scanjet 2400 scanner doesn’t have official drivers for Windows 10 and Windows 11, but you can often get it to work using the built-in drivers or workaround solutions available in Windows.
Step 1: Connect the Scanner
- Plug the HP Scanjet 2400 into a USB port on your computer.
- Windows should detect the device automatically, but it might fail to find the appropriate drivers.
Step 2: Use Windows Update to Search for Drivers
a) Open Device Manager:
- Press
Windows + X
and choose Device Manager.
b) Locate the Scanner:
- Look under Other Devices or Imaging Devices to find the scanner (it might be listed as an unknown device).
c) Update the Driver:
- Right-click the scanner and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Allow Windows to search online for any available generic drivers. Sometimes, Windows can find compatible drivers via its updates.
If this method doesn’t install a working driver, try using Windows’ built-in scanning app.
Step 3: Use “Windows Fax and Scan” or “Scan App”
a) Windows Fax and Scan:
- Open the Start menu and search for Windows Fax and Scan.
- Click on New Scan and see if your scanner is listed as an available device.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to scan your document.
b) Scan App:
- Open the Start menu and search for the Scan app.
- Open the app and see if your HP Scanjet 2400 is listed. If it is, you can begin scanning from there.
Step 4: Compatibility Mode Installation (Alternative)*
If none of the above steps work, you can try installing an older driver (for Windows 7 or Windows 8) in Compatibility Mode:
- Download the Windows 7 or 8 drivers for the HP Scanjet 2400 from the HP website (if available).
- Right-click the installer file and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab, check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for, and select Windows 7 or Windows 8.
- Run the installer, and then reboot the computer.
Note: *Use at your own risk.
Step 5: Third-Party Scanning Software (Alternative)
If you are still unable to scan, you might want to try third-party scanning software that supports older scanners:
- VueScan is a popular option that supports a wide range of scanners, including the HP Scanjet 2400. It may work where official drivers don’t.
