To install the HP Photosmart C4480 printer using Windows’ built-in drivers, follow these steps:
Step 1: Connect the Printer
- Power on the printer and make sure it’s connected to your computer via a USB cable.
Step 2: Open “Devices and Printers”
- On your Windows computer, press the

+R
to open the Run dialog. - Type
control printers
and press Enter. This will open the Devices and Printers window.
Step 3: Add a Printer
- In the Devices and Printers window, click on “Add a printer”.
- Windows will search for available printers. If your HP Photosmart C4480 appears, select it and click Next. If it doesn’t appear, click “The printer that I want isn’t listed”.
Step 4: Install the Printer Manually
- Choose “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings” and click Next.
- Select “Use an existing port”, choose the appropriate USB port from the drop-down list, and click Next.
Step 5: Select HP Drivers from the List
- On the next screen, choose HP from the list of manufacturers.
- Scroll through the list of printers and find HP Photosmart C4480 (or a similar driver). If it is not listed, choose the HP Photosmart Series driver, which should work.
- Click Next to proceed with the installation.
Step 6: Complete the Installation
- Give the printer a name (or leave the default name).
- If prompted, choose whether or not to set the printer as the default.
- Click Next and wait for Windows to install the driver.
- After the installation completes, click Finish.
Step 7: Print a Test Page
Once installed, you can print a test page to verify the installation. Go back to Devices and Printers, right-click on the printer, and select “Print a test page”.
