How to Install the HP Photosmart C4280 Printer and Scanner Using Built-in Drivers in Windows 10 and 11
1. Connect the Printer to Your Computer
- Via USB Cable:
- Connect the printer to your computer using the USB cable provided.
- Ensure the printer is turned on before proceeding.
2. Install the Printer Using Windows Built-in Drivers
For Windows 10:
- Click on the Start Menu and open Settings (the gear icon).
- Navigate to Devices and then select Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner.
- Wait for Windows to detect your HP Photosmart C4280.
- If the printer appears, select it, and Windows will automatically install the built-in drivers.
- If it doesn’t appear, click The printer that I want isn’t listed and select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
- Choose Use an existing port (usually the USB port is selected by default).
- In the next window, select HP from the manufacturer list and then choose HP Photosmart C4200 series from the printers list.
- Complete the setup by following the prompts.
For Windows 11:
- Open Settings from the Start Menu.
- Go to Bluetooth & Devices, then click on Printers & Scanners.
- Select Add Device to search for your printer.

- Open the Start Menu and search for Windows Scan (you can download this app from the Microsoft Store if it’s not pre-installed).
- Connect your HP Photosmart C4280 and open the Scan app.
- Select your printer from the Scanner drop-down list.
- Set your preferences (e.g., file format, resolution) and click Scan.
For Windows 11:
- Use Windows Scan, which can be found in the Start Menu or installed from the Microsoft Store.
- Launch the app and select your HP Photosmart C4280 as the scanner.
- Choose your settings (file type, scan quality) and start scanning by pressing the Scan button.
4. Verify Printer and Scanner Installation
- After the setup, print a test page to ensure the printer is working correctly:
- Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners.
