Installing Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution
To add a USB-connected printer to Windows without needing extra drivers, follow these steps:
Adjust Device Installation Settings:
- Search for “Change device installation settings” in Windows and open it.
- Ensure that “Yes (recommended)” is selected to allow Windows to download manufacturer drivers.
Prepare the Printer:
- Make sure you have an available USB port on your computer. Avoid using a USB hub or docking station, as the printer may not receive enough power to function properly.
- Turn on the printer and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
Install the Printer:
- If a “Found new hardware” message appears, follow any prompts to complete the printer installation.
- Test the printer by trying to print. If it prints, the driver was installed successfully.
If Printing Fails, Add the Printer Manually:
- Search for and open “Add a printer or scanner” in Windows.
- Click “Add a printer or scanner” and wait for Windows to search for available printers.
- If your printer appears, select it and click “Add device” to complete the installation.
If the Printer is Not Found:
- Click “The printer that I want isn’t listed.”
- In the “Find a printer by other options” window, choose “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings,” then click “Next.”
- In the “Choose a printer port” window, select “Use an existing port,” choose “USB001: (Virtual printer port for USB)” from the drop-down menu, and click “Next.”
- Follow the instructions to install the driver for your printer model.
